Monk Fryston, Hillam & Burton Salmon
Defibrillator Group
Thanks to the hard work of fund raisers in recent years and
to the dedication of our volunteers, a
portable defibrillator machine is now available to save lives in our villages. If
the defibrillator can be
used within the first few minutes following a heart attack, the chances of
survival can be much greater.
The scheme was launched on 1st May 2004 and currently
operates with around 15 volunteers qualified to operate
the defibrillator - providing cover for about 50% of the time. Between May
2004 and December 2007, we responded to 30 emergency calls.
More volunteers are
always welcome. Training is provided every 6 months - so giving a little of
your time really could save someone's life in your local community.
If you can help or would like more information, please contact
Heart Sparks at the e-mail
address above or telephone 01977 671172.
The original appeal to raise the money needed was started by a
small group of dedicated local people who enlisted the support of their local
communities. Congratulations to everyone
involved.
Many of the original volunteers came forward at a public meeting
which was held in Monk Fryston Church Hall in November 2002.
The name Heart Sparks and the logo were the result of a competition for pupils at Monk Fryston
School.
